Overview

Gemini CLI is an open-source AI agent that brings the power of Gemini directly into your terminal. Originally launched with a generous free tier offering 60 requests per minute and 1,000 per day with Gemini 2.5 Pro, it became the most popular terminal AI assistant with over 100,000 GitHub stars. Gemini CLI uses a reason-and-act (ReAct) loop with built-in tools and supports local or remote MCP servers. Note: For individual users, Gemini CLI transitioned to Antigravity CLI in June 2026, though the open-source codebase remains available for enterprise and self-hosted deployments.
